Pescar and Makro
Pescar is a non-profit organisation which main objective is to promote and execute actions aimed to strengthening the link between education, youth and employment. The educational centers located in Makro provide social-professionalizing education for vulnerable youngsters that live in the communities close to our stores. The intention is to prepare them for their first formal job, promoting their integral development and encouraging their full inclusion in the company and the society. Makro employees work as volunteers in this journey, sharing their technical knowledge, professional and personal experiences.
Makro is responsible for validating the educational program that will be used to teach students several business-related topics. The methodology mixes technical subjects with personal development and enables volunteers to impart company values in the relationship built with them.
The technical subjects are mainly taught by Makro employees that share their experience and expertise, also transmitting perseverance and commitment towards work. The program also has a “practical” part, when students visit Makro Stores and Head Office for professional rotations in the different areas. They are also given the opportunity to meet and interact with Makro's suppliers and partners. They have the opportunity to visit suppliers operations, which, thoughout the past years, included Colgate-Palmolive, Coca-Cola, Menoyo, Rigolleau, among others. Special speakers, employees of Makro partners, are also invited to give classes. Unilever and Oracle have been relevant partners of it.
Finally, Makro provides the students with uniforms, school supplies and commuting transportation to get to the classes. In Makro Brazil, 20 volunteers participate donating, monthly, food basket for the students.
Makro Argentina has been working with Pescar since 2008 and since 2018, Makro Brazil has also launched the collaboration with Pescar.
