SHV Energy China launches self-service payment machines with face recognition modules in autogas stations

The first new self-service payment machines went live in 8 of SHV Energy’s LPG stations in China last May. With these machines, all the electronic payments (about 70% of all transactions), can be finished by customers independently.

For users of social media app Wechat*, face recognition payment is also supported. The face recognition payment is very efficient and the total payment process takes about 20 seconds.

Face recognition payment has been developing significantly in China over the last few years, helping improve the customer experience and save rising labour costs. SHV Energy China is also exploring how to use this face recognition module in the cylinder business retail network.

* Wechat is owned by Chinese tech giant TenCent and is China’s most popular messaging app with a monthly user base of more than 1 billion people.
