Mammoet successfully relocates historic Kiruna Church in one piece
Mammoet successfully relocated Sweden’s iconic Kiruna Church over two days, preserving its structure during a 713-tonne move prompted by mine expansion.
The operation involved over 1,000 hours of planning, advanced engineering, and collaboration with wood specialists. The church was lifted 1.3 meters and transported using Self-Propelled Modular Transporters, with a custom system ensuring minimal tilt. Thousands, including the King of Sweden, witnessed the event.
The church arrived safely at its new site, and its belfry will be moved next. Mammoet’s work highlights the importance of precision and care in preserving cultural heritage.
